Brush and floss your teeth after each meal and at bedtime with a minimum of 3 times a day. Make sure that you clean all of the surfaces very well. In order to properly clean underneath your wire, you must angle your toothbrush bristles to go between the wire and the teeth. The place that most people miss is between the braces and the gums, so pay special attention to these areas.
After you have brushed really well, rinse your mouth. Each time you brush you need to make sure that you have gotten your teeth really clean.
Look and inspect your teeth thoroughly to make sure there is no plaque or food remaining on your teeth. Do not just “think” that they are clean; before you finish you need to be sure that they are clean. Taking care of your teeth, especially during orthodontic treatment, is a lifelong benefit.
The consequences of improper brushing and flossing include permanent white scars, tooth decay, gum disease and tooth loss.
All it takes to do a great job of brushing is removing all of the plaque on your teeth, gums, and braces!
